Biscuit Tin Restyle

My niece Jasmine uses an old biscuit tin to hold her many hair accessories. It wasn’t very attractive….here is a picture of it…

So I spray painted it with White Knight Squirts quick dry gloss enamel in ‘gum grey’. I let it dry overnight and then glued on some rosettes my mum made from scrap material.

Blackberry Toastie Goodness

Happy Monday! How good does our toasted sandwich look? We’re hungry again just looking at it! Nom nom nom…

We’ve been slightly obsessed with toasted cheese sandwiches recently and we wanted to try a sweeter version of it.

What you need...

What you need…

Here’s what we used:

  • Some bread
  • Brie Cheese
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Fresh Blackberries

Bang it all together into a sandwich maker – keep it in there until it’s toasted to your liking. Then enjoy with hot beverage of your choice 🙂

It’s delicious! So we urge you to try it!

Have you got any versions of the mighty toasted cheese sandwich that you would like to recommend to us? We love food so please don’t hold back – we’ll give most things a try 🙂

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

  • juice 2 x lime and 2 x lemon
  • blend frozen grapes
  • add all to jug with gin, tonic and mineral water
  • add ice to serve
Pretty summer cocktail...

Pretty summer cocktail…

This was delicious but got a bit too much after a few so we ended up trying version 2 – which we preferred!

Version 2

  • It’s exactly like version one – but swap out the 1.25 litres lemon lime sparkling mineral water with 1.25 litres soda water

We prefer our cocktails with just a hind of flavour hence in the end version 2 won out of the two.

How do you prefer your cocktails? Packed with flavours or light and refreshing?

Please share your favourite cocktail recipe with us – we’d love to give it a try.

Fascinator Restyle

Our client Kadyn was looking for a fascinator to go with his outfit for a costume party. As we had worked on the Dreamcatcher Restyle for him he came to us for help.

The flowers are made from a dressing gown and put together with some leftover feathers from a previous Fascinator Restyle. Luckily for us it was the same colour combination!

Another successful restyle and Kadyn continues to be a happy customer 🙂 Here’s a picture of Kadyn fully transformed into Miss Vida Boem!

Lemon and Thyme Salt Scrub

Lemon and Thyme Salt Scrub

This time we tried a salt scrub. At some point we saw this one somewhere but we couldn’t find it anywhere to reference in this post 😦 Our previous successful experiments have been Vanilla Sugar Scrub and a Natural Hair and Scalp Treatment. We found that the textures differed between the sugar and the salt. The sugar felt more like wet sandy mud whilst this salt scrub was drier and rougher. Now this doesn’t mean the salt scrub wasn’t any good – it was great on the more tougher parts of the body like feet, elbows and legs.

All that you need...

All that you need…

1 cup rock salt (not the big chunky pieces or the really fine stuff – something in between)
1/2 cup almond oil
Zest of one lemon
6 sprigs thyme leaves stripped

– pour salt in a bowl
– add lemon zest and bruised thyme leaves
– pour in oil and mix

The almond oil we used was purchased from Health and Happiness. Check out their website (it’s on their Facebook page) as well they have so much education on natural products – there’s also heaps of DIYs! Please do not disturb us – we are now very busy 😉 just kidding – but seriously please check them out!

Another body scrub that we adore! We are totally loving making our own beauty products. Have you got many recipes you can recommend to us? Please do tell us about them.

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

Renee’s Nails

We had a meeting this week to just catch up after the holiday break. First things first let’s check out Renee’s nails this week. Don’t you just love this shade of green? Sometimes the el cheapos just out perform themselves!

We just need to put it out there – our meeting wasn’t in the most stylish of hang outs – we met up at McDonalds or as us Aussie’s call it Maccas!

In preparation for Australia Day later this month, Maccas have got some Aussie influence on their menu. So we tried out the Fanta Frozen McFloat in Passionfruit flavour. Basically it’s a Passionfruit slurpee with soft serve on top – Yummy!

Jasmine in her T’s

Normally we would do this type of restyle on something second hand. Due to being so busy over the holiday period we just got the Tshirt from Kmart. These basic Tshirts were only $3 each! Say it with me – BARGAIN!

Original Tee from Kmart

The first one was embellished with Burnt Flowers made from pajama pants. The same pajama pants were previously used in our PJ restyle.

The second one was printed in an ombre style whilst using a paper doily as a stencil. We did this previously in the baby white T restyle.

We think Jasmine loves how they turned out! Her mummy loves them too 🙂

Natural Hair and Scalp Treatment

Natural Hair Treatment

Natural Hair Treatment

We were inspired by this pin on Pinterest. It’s said to increase scalp circulation, loosens up dry and itchy scalp. It also removes residue from your everyday shampoo and conditioner.

All you need...

All you need…

4 x tablespoons coconut oil
2 x tablespoons lemon juice
1 x tablespoon grapefruit juice

– mix mix mix
– apply to dry hair. Scalp only and start at the top of your head
– massage in with your fingertips and leave in for 20 minutes. We left it for an hour
– rinse out and shampoo and condition as per normal

We tried it and it definitely loosened up the dry scalp that historically never went away – 2 weeks later it hasn’t come back. It also left our hair feeling so clean! We felt it was a little heavy on our fair hair and it took a few washes to not have oily feeling hair. That’s just a minor setback and we highly recommend you try it – especially if you have lovely thick hair!

Give it a go and don’t forget to tell us how it goes for you 🙂

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

Binagoongan Chicken with Eggplant

Binagoongan Chicken with Eggplant

Binagoongan Chicken with Eggplant

Binagaoongan is the filipino term used when a dish is simmered in bagaoong. Bagaoong is a commonly used filipino condiment made of shrimps. This results in a salty paste that tastes similar to fish sauce.

This is a dish that Amour’s sister in law Michelle makes for the family. Amour usually only likes eggplants as baba ganoush (eggplant dip) but she loves this dish! It’s delicious to the max!

Tomatoes and Eggplants

Tomatoes and Eggplants

Ingredients:
1 x whole chicken breast sliced
2 x medium eggplants sliced (1/2 inch thick)
1/2 x can tomato (diced)
5 x roma tomato (quartered)
1 x red onion (peeled and quartered)
1 tablespoon cooked bagaoong

Bagaoong

Bagaoong

Method:
– On a medium heat fry eggplant slices with a little oil. Fry all slices in batches until all are softened. Remove from pan
– Fry the tomatoes and onions again with a little oil. Soften then remove from pan
– Leave a few tomatoes in the pan then add the chicken. Fry the slices a little so the meat just turns white on either side. Like the eggplant do this in batches as you don’t want to overcook it
– While the chicken is cooking cut the eggplant slices in half with scissors
– Add to the pan all of the chicken, tomatoes, onion and canned tomatoes. Cover and let it cook on medium heat for around 5 minutes. Don’t let it get too watery if it starts to just remove the lid
– Add bagaoong and stir it through. Allow the dish to bubble away for a while untouched. What you want is for the dish to dry up a little so that it isn’t watery
– When it’s a little dry add the eggplant and turn down to a low heat. Only cook for a further 3-5 minutes. Otherwise the eggplant loses it’s flavour
Taste if it needs more saltiness. If it needs more add bagaoong a little at a time, stir then taste. Just remember a little goes a long way!

Please try this dish and let us know how you go with it. For all the pinoys out there – do you have a binagaoongan dishes that you would like to share with us? We’d love to try it 🙂

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

Tin can restyle…

Once upon a time a pasta sauce was made and all that was left behind were these lonely little cans 😦

We found some scrap material and ribbon from our stash…

We made some glue then put it all together. Ta da! What do you think of our restyle?

Have you done any projects from empty tin cans? Please share them with us 🙂

Take care, until next time, keep restyling!
