Blueberry Ice Candy

In the Philippines, ice candy is a popular dessert. Best way to describe it is that it is a homemade creamy icy pole.

Buko Ice Candy from Busog! Sarap!

Buko Ice Candy from Busog! Sarap!

Normally it is made with milk, sugar and some sort of fruit – mangoes, coconut, avocados – anything! Today’s version I made especially for my niece, Mischa. Mischa has a few allergies so this version was made with this in mind.

What you need?

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 2 teaspoons raw sugar
  • 1 cup rice milk (this can be replaced with any milk you prefer)
The Process

The Process

What you do?

  • Put a small saucepan onto a medium heat – add the blueberries and the raw sugar
  • Cook until the sugar has dissolved – the blueberries will start to release it’s water
  • Keep cooking until the syrup thickens up a little
  • Set aside to cool
  • Add in the rice milk
  • Pour into ice candy plastic bags – or any type of icy pole moulds
  • Freeze until solid
  • Enjoy – nom nom nom!

Mischa was my little helper for this project – she particularly loved it when we were cooking down the blueberries because I used the wooden spoon to apply the blueberry syrup as lipstick on her lips – hehehe!

Do you have any special icy pole recipes that you could share with us? It’s super HOT here in Australia – so any excuse to help us cool down would be great!

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

It’s my last full day in Davao City, Philippines – tomorrow I fly back home to Sydney, Australia.

During my time in Davao I checked out a stationery store called Paper Rock Scissors. I first found out about them from Aicha of The Late Bloomer Blog. When I read her post I thought to myself – well I’m in Davao soon so I better check them out. Boy am I glad I did!

I found out that they make custom rubber stamps – so we got some made! Here they are:

Love Notes Stamp Collection

Along with that we got a variety of ink pads:

Here’s a list of the inks we purchased:

  • Color Box Cats Eye Pigment Brush Pad in Silver
  • Brilliance Dew Drop in Pearlescent Crimson
  • Brilliance Dew Drop in Starlite Black
  • Whispers Ink Pad in Fresh Eggplant
  • Jenni Bowlin Ink Pad in Brown Sugar
  • American Crafts Brand Ink Pad in Black
  • American Crafts Brand Ink Pad in Silver

But wait! Here’s more of what else I got 🙂

Check out Aicha’s post for photos of the store. I was in a super hurry at the time so I didn’t get to take any pictures. So not only do they sell a variety of stationery but they offer lots of different services. I’ve already told you about the custom rubber stamps – along with that they do business cards, book binding, shape-cutting and much much more.

At the moment I’m working closely with Lilibeth at Paper Rock Scissors to get some custom clothing labels made so that our restyles can look more finished. It will also be the last step before we open up our Etsy store…excited much! Yes I am!

So if you are ever in Davao City, Philippines – give these guys a visit. They are super friendly and you can spend hours lost in their supplies!

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

Hi again, it’s Amour here for this post. I’m still in the Philippines but head back home to Australia soon. Last week my husband and I went to the Davao Convention & Trade Center for The 13th Biggest Bazar in Davao City.

Davao Bazar

Davao Bazar

It was the first bazar I had been to in the Philippines and I’d always wanted to go to one. The locals used to advise me not to because they were scared that I would get mugged! I felt safe though I had trusty hubby by my side to protect me 🙂

It was a mixed bag of old and new & factory and handmade goods – and in true Filo style – there was lots of food!

It’s another picture heavy post – so grab a cuppa and enjoy the pix 🙂

One of the first stalls that caught my eye was Burloloy@Craft Haus – all the pretty colours! I bought a few of their earring sets as they were handmade and I’m really looking for some quality handmade goods to give as gifts at Christmas.

And now for some random pictures of random stalls…

Headbands anyone???

Here is my favourite stall – Crystallized Posh – look at all of the pretty collars! They really inspired me to want to create some – so I can’t wait to get back home and dig through my stash of goodies to see what I can come up with!

What do you think? Have you been to any good markets recently? Tell me about them – I always love to hear about them and the special treats that people have found.

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

Inspire Me Monday! – Singlet Restyle or Epic Fail

Davao City, Philippines, restyle, singlet, ukay ukay

Yes we know its Wednesday – Let’s not talk about the lack of Monday that it is 🙂

So this week we decided to restyle a singlet that was recently purchased at the Gaisano Ukay-ukay.

Here are the before and after shots – Similar to our last restyle it was made by painting around some paper doilies. This time we used a smaller doily and layered them with the use of blue and purple fabric paint.

Singlet Restyle Project

We think it didn’t turn out quite as planned but there is a messy cuteness to it – What do you think? Restyle success or epic fail?

Hi everyone!

It’s Amour here today for this post. I’m now in Davao City, Philippines for work. So while I’m here my husband and I went to check out the local Gaisano Ukay-ukay.

Love Notes Restyle Studio

Gaisano Ukay-ukay

So what is Ukay-ukay – you might be asking? It is a Filipino provincial term meaning ‘to mix up’. Here is the definition straight from Urban Dictionary – “a term used for places that sell secondhand goods (such as clothing, shoes, bags, furniture, etc.) at dirt cheap prices usually shipped from the US Salvation Army to third world countries like the Philippines.”

When we got there it was still daylight but within 10 minutes the dark had crept in. This made it harder to dig around cause there wasn’t much lighting. Plus I had to be careful where I stepped as there were random holes and cement blocks in my path!

Love Notes Restyle Studio

The ukay-ukay…

For under $10 AUD I was able to get 12 items – all t-shirts and singlets for restyling later.

Happy Monday to all!

Last week we presented you with our new project the Baby White T Restyle! Here’s the before shot…

Made by Love Notes Restyle Studio

Baby White T Restyle Project – BEFORE

With a little creativity and a crossing of the fingers we have ended up with this little number…

Baby White T Restyle Project – AFTER

All we did was position a paper doily – rubbed a foam roller in fabric paint – roll roll roll – and there you have it – pretty design for a pretty white T.

What do you think of our little restyle?

Next week we will be bringing you another t shirt restyle – we just haven’t found it yet 🙂 Amour will be hitting the Filipino ukay ukay stores in Davao City Philippines in search of t shirts needing a restyle.

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!

Happy Hump Day! It’s Amour here – I’m busy packing my suitcase and hand luggage in preparation for my flight tomorrow to the Philippines. I’ve got to get to sleep soon cause it’s a 4am wake up call in the morning…booo!

So since my handbag was looking so lovely and organised I thought I’d share with you the contents….Just so you know it weighs a tonne!

Amour's 'Saks' Handbag

Filled with all my essentials….

Now when you open up my The Sak handbag there are two items (btw my mummy bought me this bag at a garage sale for $5!):

  • My bag organiser that I got for $2 at my recent garage sale hopping adventures
  • And my Little Twin Stars pouch

So the pouch holds my purple Sony Cyper-shot (Carl Zeiss T99) camera and it’s charger. I just gotta keep it safe in the cutest way possible! If you don’t know me I’m a typical asian with a camera *snap snap snap* I guess I’m just Amourazzi – hmmmm I think I just found myself a new nickname!

Little Twin Stars Pouch

Holds my camera and it’s charger…

And then we come to my bag organiser – looks deceivingly light and empty – but it lies…

Cherryblooms Bag Organiser

Cherryblooms Bag Organiser

Well here are its contents!

Contents of my Bag Organiser

Hmmm I wonder if i can fit anything else in there…

  1. Bag Organiser – from Cherryblooms
  2. Kindle e-Reader – I’m reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
  3. My notebook – for jotting down ideas and the odd doodling
  4. Passport holder – from Urban Originals
  5. My passport – can’t leave home without this one!
  6. My iPhone 4s – This is my Australia phone and I seriously don’t know how I ever lived without this little beauty!
  7. myphone swarovski phone – This is my Philippines phone, so that my hubby can text me without the nasty international rates
  8. Fold-able fan – from the Philippine Eagle Farm in Davao City, Philippines – it’s really hot in the Philippines so I gotta keep my cool somehow 🙂
  9. Hand sanitiser – Tuberose & Jasmine from Nougat London
  10. Hand cream – Tuberose & Jasmine from Nougat London
  11. Eclipse chewy mints – for minty freshness
  12. Sorbent clean & fresh wipes – cause you just never know when you need ’em
  13. Lucas’ Papaw Ointment – best stuff in the whole wide world!
  14. Ummmm kinda missed this number – oops sorry 14
  15. Indisalon Nutrition Nail Spa  – by Etude House – to keep my nail cuticles in check. Check out their stuff – it’s full of girly goodness!
  16. Pen – for all that jotting and doodling and filling out immigration and customs paperwork
  17. Nail file – cause I always break a nail when travelling – actually I already broke most of my nails just packing the suitcase – bah!
  18. Purse – I don’t know who it is made by but I bought it at SM when I was living in the Philippines
  19. Keys – 2 for house, 1 for work
  20. Handbag holder – these things are great – you clip it to the table and your handbag hangs off it – mine has a peacock on it
  21. Mirror – to make sure I’m still pretty or have food in my teeth – and it’s got a pretty elephant on it
  22. Hair comb – by Paganini – these are great, no matter how tangled my hair is it easily gets the knots out. The metal bristles spin as you comb – trust me it’s great!

So that’s it – Amour’s handbag! This went way longer than it was meant to – but was so much fun! Hope you enjoyed it too 🙂

What’s some of the items you just have to have in your handbag?

Amour xx

Hi it’s just Amour again for this post. Last Sunday my little sister (Jade), my niece (Jasmine) and I went to the Baby & Kids Market. This is a market where you can buy new and pre-loved baby goods. This one was held in Kellyville NSW. These markets are held all over Australia so check out their website to see where their next market will be near you. That’s if you are an Aussie 🙂

So here are the pix of the market itself…

Look at all the pretty items at the JasmineJayde stall – they aren’t handmade but still so pretty and they have definitely inspired me for some future projects.

And look at this gorgeous dress – wish it came in my size!

Pretty Dress!

I wonder if I could make my version of this…

Now here’s the part we all love…the treasures purchased 🙂

The treasures!!!

My niece Jasmine will continue to be the best dressed baby in town!

Later this week I’m off to the Philippines for work and to see my hubby! It’s been 4 months since we last saw each other  While I’m there I’ll also be checking out some of the local ukay ukay. Ukay ukay is the Filipino Flea Market or Charity Store or Trash and Treasure or Op shop or whatever it is that you call it in your neck of the woods – basically I CAN’T WAIT!!! 🙂

Take care, until next time…keep restyling!
